But because it is backed by the federal government, applicants need to be ready to play by the rules so that the process goes smoothly.<\/p>\n<p>Daniel Walsh, Vice President and Senior Corporate Relationship Manager with BBVA Compass, offers these do\u2019s and don\u2019ts when it comes to applying for an SBA loan:<\/p>\n<h2>Do<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Seek out an SBA loan preferred lender.<\/strong> The designation means the Small Business Administration has a comfort level with the lender and that matters, Walsh says. \u201cIt allows the lender to make a final credit decision without sending the request to the SBA for a decision. SBA preferred lenders have an earned level of confidence.\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sunbeltnetwork.com\/milwaukee-wi\/\">\u00a0Sunbelt Business Brokers &#8211; Milwaukee <\/a>works with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wellsfargo.com\/biz\/sba\/\">WellsFargo for SBA loan applications.<\/a><\/li>\n<li><strong>\u201cHave your documentation in order,\u201d<\/strong> says Walsh. \u201cThere can\u2019t be anything missing.\u201d You should be ready to hand your loan officer three years of business financial statements and tax returns, a personal financial statement, a statement of personal history, your business plan, and articles of incorporation, if applicable.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Get your financial house in order. <\/strong>Make sure your financial statements include a profit and loss statement, projected financial statements, ownership and affiliations, business certificate\/license, loan application history, business and personal income tax returns, your business lease, and r\u00e9sum\u00e9s for all the principals.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Proactively explain unusual events and growth projections. <\/strong>Did your business suffer a dip in sales one year? \u00a0Spell out why and how it happened. Does your forecast include a dramatic jump of revenue? \u201cExplain the reasoning behind your projections and your confidence level, says Walsh. \u201cDon\u2019t expect your banker to be able to fill in the blanks.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Don\u2019t<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Rule out the <\/strong><strong>SBA loan option<\/strong><strong>.<\/strong> \u201cTalk to a banker, check into it. A lot of times companies don\u2019t realize they can qualify for it,\u201d he says. Also some businesses may question whether the documentation requirements are worth the extra steps, even if they can qualify for a traditional loan. \u201cIf your business has been renting and you are thinking of buying, you could amortize that loan for 20 years with traditional financing. With an SBA loan, you could amortize it over 25 years, which helps improve month to month cash flow,\u201d he says.<\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.axial.net\/forum\/banks-ask-personal-guarantee-loan\/\">Balk at the request for a personal guarantee.<\/a><\/strong> \u201cIt\u2019s 100 percent required,\u201d says Walsh. \u201cIt\u2019s reassurance that you, the business owner, are willing to assume more risk to assure your business\u2019 success.\u201d<\/li>\n<li><strong>Let the documentation requirements discourage you.<\/strong> \u201cIt\u2019s a wonderful product that we can offer that provides much more flexibility and much less reporting requirements long term,\u201d says Walsh. \u201cWhile it may appear stringent up front, it is often well wor<a tabindex=\"-1\" href=\"mailto:deb.j.curtis@wellsfargo.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">mailto:deb.j.curtis@wellsfargo.com<\/a>th your while.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>To contact a SBA loan representative directly in Wisconsin, please contact\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:deb.j.curtis@wellsfargo.com\">Deb J.
