Instead of hiring an in-house accountant that may lack experience, breach confidentiality, or leave the business for other offers, many firms use an accounting and bookkeeping as their outside accounting department.
Bookkeeping – Once the accounting system is in place bookkeepers enter the data so that it is properly reflected in the financial statements. Bookkeeping also includes payroll, accounts payable, and accounts receivable. Learn more about our nationwide bookkeeping services in Utah.
Payroll – For our outsourced accounting clients, we can manage your payroll and save you the time and headache that can be involved in working with large payroll companies that know nothing about your business. Payroll representatives at larger firms do not always understand whether owners should be paid through payroll, how much they should be paid, or when it is time to discuss the matter with your CPA. We can customize your payroll to meet the needs of your business, while staying compliant with payroll tax laws. Payroll services include payroll tax payments and filings.
Billing and Accounts Receivable – Billing clients should be done on a regular basis and should include payments received before clients feel comfortable paying you in a timely manner. Also, it is important to know where your revenue comes from for planning and for determining whether your business is subject to reporting in another state. Receivables should also be kept current, since as time passes, the likelihood of collection decreases. Also, companies that report on an accrual basis could easily pay too much in taxes when receivables are not maintained.
Accounts Payable Tracking and Payment – Bills should be entered as soon as they are received so that businesses always know how much their payables are for planning and cash management. Also, when paying vendors, W-9s and often certificates of insurance are needed to determine whether Form 1099 information returns need to be filed with the IRS, state agencies, etc.
Quarterly, Annual Tax Forms and Reports – Our firm works with your tax preparer to ensure that income taxes are filed in a timely manner, estimated tax payments are made when required, and business taxes are filed and paid in each state or local agency. Also, information returns such as 1099s for vendors are sent and filed so you don’t have to worry about whether a vendor is subject to receiving a tax form.
Monthly Performance Reports – Not all businesses are the same and although accounting software can generate basic reports, they are not always informative. When you need to track detailed information for your business, it starts with how you want it reflected in a report and really depends on how it is initially entered into your accounting software. We can customize reports to assist you in managing your business or for use with our CFO consulting services when making business planning decisions.
