Sunbelt was founded by Ed Pendarvis in Charleston, South Carolina in 1978. Ed developed a highly successful business brokerage operation and began franchising business brokerage offices under the Sunbelt marks during the mid 1990's. Sunbelt has enjoyed tremendous success as a franchise system and has expanded to become the world's largest business brokerage operation with approximately 200 offices nationwide and an additional 60 plus offices worldwide. The international business brokerage association membership is comprised of 30% brokers from Sunbelt. With its vast history Sunbelt has a strong belief in professionalism, as well as developing critical knowledge to keep up with market trends.
The Sunbelt of Portland office has been in the marketplace 12 years, has sold over 150 businesses in all types of industry from small manufacturing to large nurseries, as well as distribution, wine, restaurants, franchises, and franchise resales. In 2008 Portland acquired a permanent location on the doorstep of Portland directly under the tram.
Office Owner
Pat Lawrence has over 20 years experience in the brokerage industry. She is president and owner of the Portland and Salem, Oregon and Vancouver, Washington branches of Sunbelt Business Brokers, which she opened in May of 1997. Since its inception the company has assisted in the sale of a variety of businesses ranging from small businesses to manufacturing companies, from restaurants to major distributors. With her increasing success, Pat has expanded her territory to include service to businesses in the Vancouver and Salem areas. Pat's goal has been to create win/win situations for sellers and buyers. Through her skills, hard work and determination her company has become one of the leading business brokerage firms in Portland. This year Sunbelt Portland is anticipated to grow 30%. Pat is a member of the International Business Brokerage Association and achieved a Certified Business Intermediary Designation (C.B.I.) from that organization. She also has Real Estate Broker Licenses in both Oregon and Washington.
Brokers
Jim Ampe has worked at Sunbelt Portland for six years and has been a broker for 25 years. He has owned several businesses, including two computer companies, a manufacturing company, a tanning salon, and a Laundromat. Jim has started, operated, and sold his own businesses, so he understands the needs of business owners and every phase of the ownership and selling process. Jim holds a B.S. in Agriculture from St. Cloud State College and has complete post-baccalaureate courses in Economics and Business Management. He has extensive experience in both the high tech and agricultural industries. Jim has sold 46 businesses including import/export, manufacturing, restaurant, night-club, mailbox services, coffee shop, automotive, and retail.
Oregon native, Steve Byrne is Sunbelt Portland's newest broker. Steve founded and operated a tech company which designed, proto-typed, and tested high-speed electronic connectors. He has worked with some of the world's leading corporations including, Nike, Unisys, and Coca Cola. Steve holds a B.S. in Business Administration from University of Oregon. He has experience with Sales, Marketing, Finance, and operations. Steve has an extensive personal network of business contacts in the Portland, Eugene, and Bend areas.
Allan has been a successful business broker for over 3 years with Sunbelt Portland. His reputation precedes him in Illinois, Indiana, and Texas. His determination has provided him with a solid foundation on which he has built many strong professional relationships. Although he is not limited in his abilities he specializes in light manufacturing and automotive businesses. Allan takes pride in his diligence and integrity while serving his clients.
Being involved in the franchise industry since 1988, I have opened, transferred, renewed, relocated and remodeled over 80 Mail Boxes Etc and UPS Store franchises. Native Oregonian, I graduated from PSU with a Bachelors degree in Communications. I have opened, operated and sold my own business for a profit and like to call myself a professional problem solver and strategy expert. I place a high value on customer service and follow through.
